Statement
Over the past few years, my artistic practice has focused on sculpture, primarily woodworking, along with painting and drawing. I am drawn to wood for its potential in both traditional and contemporary crafting techniques, as well as the context of its material origins. Whether using wood or metal, I explore form, shape, and scale to push the limits of each material. My experimentation happens during construction through joinery, carving, and sanding while maintaining structural stability and intended texture. When sculpting with wood, I explore how to talk with the material itself, creating something that responds to its shape and history. By researching the material's historical use and personal experiences, I connect more deeply with it. Recently, I've returned to drawing, which has become a key part of my practice. Films depicting vast landscapes have influenced my work, particularly the connection between American culture and large stadiums and churches. I am exploring questions like: How do humans interact with these structures, and what can they reveal about human nature?
