Douglas Fir Chair
This handmade Douglas Fir chair was created for a sculpture class. Many of the various knots, nail holes and are apparent in the chair as well as the strong grain pattern of the wood. The outside presenting wood was greatly considered during the process of building the chair in terms of how it can get the attention of the viewer and get them to question the decisions that were made when building the chair. How can the wood speak to the viewer and make them wonder about the history of the material and its origin? Where does this consideration of listening to material, specifically wood lead them to?
